2007 Make-up Tips

This fall’s makeup trend is smokey-blue eye shadow. Now girls, when using blue eye shadow, you have to be very careful. If you overdo it you can look like a clown. But if done right it can add an elegant brightness to your look. There are so many shades of blue to choose from, but for this look I’d say stay away from teals and neon blues; those do not fit into the smokey category. And make sure not to go too dark either, then it will look too gray and that can portray a very harsh appearance.
Brush the shadow onto your upper eyelids and a little beneath your bottom eyelashes as well. For the top of your lids, make sure you do not go higher than your lid; that is the clown territory. And for the bottom, you only need a very thin layer or else you could look like a raccoon.
You may want to stop here, or you can add a bit of black mascara, but do not glob it on. The eye shadow adds enough attention to your eyes; you do not need overly layered eyelashes.
This look works especially well on those of you with light eyes; it will accentuate whatever color they are. But that doesn’t mean it won’t look fabulous on those of you with dark eyes! But either way, remember that colored eye shadow, especially if it is dark, can be a very bold statement, so make sure this is something you feel comfortable with.
Good luck!

FALL 2007 Beauty Make-up Trends

make-up trend

Beauty & Make Up trends are less identifiable than their Apparel & Accessory counterparts, but that doesn’t mean certain looks don’t become more popular as the seasons change.

For many of us, the change in season also means an extreme change in wardrobe - strappy sandals are replaced by boots (this season it’s the ankle boot), and little sundresses turn into luxurious knits and wool separates. And welcome back gloves & scarves!

Your face should adjust accordingly as well - light pink hues & sun-kissed bronzing should fall by the wayside, replaced by a more smoky & wintery vibe. A little more matte, a little more bold, and a whole lot more confident.

In this Trend Profile, we show you a few spotlight looks. We encourage you to try out what suits, and the nice thing about make up is that you can easily add to your collection at reasonable cost.

Something to remember: make up application may not come naturally to everyone, but there are plenty of resources out there to help! Click on product links to see store instructions or advice on how to apply many of the recommended items.

all about: “Those lips, those eyes and the makeup that enhance them”

Nude, pale, transparent, minimalist and barely there define makeup trends for spring.

And it’s no wonder. Fashion has gone feminine and the biggest thing is none other than The Dress. Flowered, ruffled, bright-colored, black and white, graphic printed, long and short and, definitely, femme fatale.

And so makeup for spring and summer is ultra feminine, soft though playful.

Eye shadow comes in shades of pastel — Laura Mercier Peach Luster, Crushed Amethyst and Steel Shining. Blushes go matte and soft — Stila Contouring Trio or N.Y.C. Pearl Mocha. And a foundation that blends easily and perfectly with your skin — Yves Saint Laurent Brush Foundation or Neutrogena Miniral Sheer Powder Foundation.

Last fall, it was all about the eye, the smoky eye, but this year it’s all about the lips. The bright lip.

The “loud mouth,” says MAC Trends book, that is “crayola … uncompromised color … playful … hot … neon.”

To make your lips stand out, many of the lipsticks and glosses this spring are “plumpers” — those with ingredients that cause swelling for more voluptuous lips a la Angelina Jolie.

We tested all this and more, a banquet of makeup from soup to nuts and hot dogs to caviar. Here are our picks and pans.

News: “Working magic with makeup”

The makeup artist who was expertly sorting out the tools of her trade assured me that makeup was more than just skin-deep. She said, I would walk away with a new outlook on makeup!

Commenting on my tired visage, the artist decided that I needed freshening up before anything else.

Using an eye toner, she eased the puffiness under my eyes and sprayed cool moisturising liquid on my face that instantly refreshed me.Feeling more energised, I saw her picking out a rosy coloured base for my skin.

She explained that it would help make my complexion more even look more radiant. I could not but agree with her when I saw the result: I did look like I had more sleep.

Covering the embarrassing blemishes on my face with concealer next, the artist then brandished a big brush and lightly dusted powder over my face, creating a flawless complexion that any woman would envy.
A little colour… : Blush is applied to the apple of my cheeks for a glowing complexion.

Makeup Artist: Eye makeup is generally softer for the spring

Fashion for the season turns its back on black, instead concentrating on vivid, often blazing colors. The makeup palette for spring, too, puts light effects and color in the spotlight.

Eye makeup trend

“But you don’t have to perfectly match the color of your eyeshadow to your new clothes,” Rick DiCecca, Estée Lauder’s global makeup stylist, said during a recent visit to Saks Fifth Avenue’s island branch.Women also needn’t copy the exaggerated applications of color seen on runways.

“It’s probably just a little too much,” said DiCecca, whose job it is to interpret the trends and adapt them into looks that a wide audience of women can wear comfortably.

The New York-based DiCecca instead advocates a face that is “luminous” with soft definition and a “kicker” touch of light green or blue on the eye or, alternately, use of cosmetic products to create a glowing, lightly bronzed effect.
